My husband and I have learned to cook with vegetables through the Happy Homes and the Fruits & Vegetables Prescription (FVRx) Program and our children have learned to love eating vegetables which they didn’t like before. I would like to thank Navajo Special Diabetes Project for getting us involved with this program. I went through the Program with my daughter Maykayla. She used to dislike vegetables before we started, but now she’ll start eating it even before it’s cooked.
Maykayla has lost 14 pounds since we joined the program at the end of August 2016. My daughter wasn’t really active before, but since she started eating more and more vegetables, she seemed to have more energy.
I work in the evenings and so my husband does most of the cooking. It’s a good thing that my husband enjoys cooking. I’ve learned new things about food and family since being a part of the Program. With each lesson, the participants make a promise to do something such as eating meals as a family. This is a big part for us because it helps us to make sure we eat a healthy meal.
